The Metaphorical Coloring Page

collage of winter themed coloring pages from peaceangelsongs

What is a coloring page but an artist’s blueprint, plan, or original drawing that comes purposelessly unfinished so that another artist may complete the picture with any color, in any medium they wish.

The colorist doesn’t have to adhere to the artist’s preconceived plan if they don’t choose to stay within the original lines of the image. It’s all up to them.

But if they do choose to stay within the lines of the original drawing plan, no matter what colors they use to fill up their picture, they should end up with a beautiful picture, the combination of their own original colorful creativity woven together within the framework of the primary artist’s original black & white drawing.

A coloring page is like a metaphor for a person’s life.

I believe that God begins with a divine plan for each soul which is like their coloring page or blueprint that He created for each of us.

He knows the beginning from the end for us all.

He gives each of us the choice as to how we will fill in the “colors” for our life journey. The colors are the metaphors for the choices we make on our path.

We may choose to walk closely with God so that we will know His will and plan for our life and abide in it. (This is like the coloring page metaphor for staying within the lines)~ This way we will not obscure His original plan He created for us to fulfill so that our lives may glorify Him on this earth.

For our God is the Divine Artist who created us and He wants to work along with us to produce in each of us a beautiful Masterpiece.

He delights in us being who He made for this truly glorifies Him.

He surely loves it when we allow Him to assist in guiding our choices according to His holy plan for our lives.

We may not always be aware that our God is piloting us.

But when we abide in Him in close fellowship, then we are sure not to obscure His purpose and plan He created for us to fulfill.

Of course everyone makes mistakes and failures, and setbacks are inevitable on our journey no matter how careful we are.

In keeping with our coloring page metaphor, we must remember that no artist is perfect and all make mistakes. That’s what erasers are for!

Jesus Christ died on the cross to bear all our sins (mistakes) and redeem us so that He could forgive us. Forgiveness is like God erasing our sins so that He no longer holds us guilty for the mistakes we have made.

His words says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

If we say that we have not sinned, we make God a liar, and His word is not in us.” 1 John 1:9-10 - KJV

When we invite Christ into our heart to be our Lord and Savior, He not only helps us to make right choices on our path, but also gives us eternal life with God.

Not only does He help us make right choices but His Word promises that as we abide in Him, He works in our hearts the desire or will to make right choices, or to keep doing His will, or staying within His holy plan for our life.

The Amplified Bible puts it this way:

“For it is [not your strength, but it is] God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure.” ~ Philippians 2:13 - AMP

We may have made a mess of our lives, our “coloring page” He gave us, but God promises in His Word, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.”Romans 8:28 - KJV

Christ further promises that if we have trusted our life to Him, “Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ…” Philippians 1:6 - KJV

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.”

Ephesians 2:10 - NLT

Heavenly Father, please work in my heart the will and strength to do Thy will, in Jesus’ holy name, amen. Thank You, Lord, I love You.
