Many suffering people love to receive a physical card, something they can hold in their hands to remind them that they are not forgotten, that someone cares about them.
All too often a quiet impulse to do some kind thing or other will knock softly on the door of our heart.
This Guest inevitably comes at the most inopportune times, like when we are most absorbed in some task that we think we can’t possibly put down.
Unbidden He knocks upon our door, interrupting our time, and calmly suggests that we lay aside whatever we are doing and go do something for someone else on His behalf.
When Jesus Christ comes to us with His still small voice and whispers that He wants us to be kind and share His love and light, we tend to ignore His voice.
“I am much too busy,” we say to the thought Christ puts in our heart.
“I will do that favor, write that encouraging note, or call or visit that person tomorrow.”
But then tomorrow comes, then the week goes by, and then a month, and still we have put the thing off that the Lord inspired us to do.
One day we suddenly realize that we have not heard that quiet little nudge beckoning us to please do what He’d asked.
Alas, when we finally go do the task that we had ignored, the opportunity is no longer available to us.
“To everything there is a season...” King Solomon wrote.
When we have an impulse to do some kind thing for someone, whatever it is that the Lord is nudging us to do, and we keep putting it off...we should act on that impulse to love.
We don’t know if that moment in time to bless someone will ever come to us again. The opportunity to leave behind some of God’s Love and light in this world is a rare and beautiful gift that the Lord offers each of us, and we should seize the beautiful honor and privilege when it comes calling at our door.
